The Veronica Mars Movie Comic-Con takeover did not stop after the Hall H panel and autograph signings but continued well into the night with The Veronica Mars Fan Panel. Hypable has your report on what surprises and reveals occurred at the panel.
This writer was one of the more than 200 fans that stood out in line at 5 am in order to get into The Veronica Mars Movie fan panel. Veronica Mars fans are loyal and still obsessed with the show. The first person in line showed up around 11 pm. After waiting for a quite a bit, the first 130 in line were shepherded inside of the theater, lined up, and given instructions to wait for their wristbands. But then Percy Daggs III, who plays Wallace in the film, and Francis Capra, who plays Weevil, surprised those waiting in line with complimentary donuts and smiles. All at 6:30 am or so.
Those with wristbands along with Kickstarter backers who had included the event as part of their reward showed up at 6:45 pm and were given access to the theater around 7:30 pm. There they showed a behind-the-scenes reel of the Kickstarter campaign, conducted trivia giveaway thanks to Samsung Galaxy’s sponsorship, and showed the same sneak peek and clip that fans earlier in the day in Hall H were privy to.
Kristin Dos Santos hosted the panel and was a fun and engaging host. Her passion for Veronica Mars shined through. Creator Rob Thomas and the cast relayed their fears when launching the Kickstarter and their reactions to the success. Thomas was optimistic until the night before when nerves overtook him while Kristen Bell relayed that she was unprepared for the sheer amount of support that fans showed. Tina Majorino, who plays Mac, found out through a friend who is a huge Veronica Mars fan, which made the experience all the more special for her.
When asked if they were successful at guessing where their characters would end up, only Capra and Ryan Hansen, who plays Dick, answered positively. Hansen relayed that “Dick was still Dick” while Chris Lowell, who plays Piz, was surprised to be in the film at all.
Jason Dohring, who plays Logan, reassured fans that they will be satisfied with the movie, saying that the cast and crew “made the movie for you.” The chemistry between Logan and Veronica was brought up with it having had been a surprise to Thomas and Bell. Thomas relayed that Logan was supposed to be just the “obligatory psychotic jackass” but that the chemistry between the two actors shined on film and that the writers had to take advantage of it. Bell concurred with Thomas, saying to Dohring, “We’re on fire.”
In regards to the paparazzi photo that featured Lowell and Bell on set as Piz and Veronica, Lowell said he knows that fans were immediate with their reactions. He joked that he thought, “fans are going to kill me.” Dos Santos asked the obligatory question of who would be Veronica’s love interests in the film and while Thomas joked about Deputy Leo (Max Greenfield), he declined to answer the question, wanting the fans to have a surprise.
